About the Foundation
The SHRM Foundation was founded in 1966 as a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors from the HR profession, including academics, practitioners and representatives from SHRM. The Foundation funds research, publications and education to advance the HR profession and enhance the effectiveness of HR professionals. The Foundation is a legally separate organization from SHRM and is not funded by SHRM dues. To support its important work, the SHRM Foundation conducts an annual fundraising campaign. All contributions to the Foundation are tax-deductible.
The mission of the SHRM Foundation is to maximize the impact of the HR profession on organizational decision making and performance by promoting innovation, education, research, and the use of research-based knowledge.

Effective Practice Guidelines
The SHRM Foundation has created a new series entitled Effective Practice Guidelines to help make research-based knowledge more accessible to HR practitioners. The first report in the series, Performance Management, by Elaine Pulakos, was released in 2004. New reports on Employee Engagement and Commitment and Selection Assessment Methods are now available. To create the reports, a subject matter expert with both research and practitioner experience is selected to prepare each set of guidelines. The author distills all relevant research findings and expert opinion into specific advice on how to conduct effective HR practice. The reports may be downloaded for free by SHRM members at www.shrm.org/foundation. Printed copies are available by request from the SHRM Foundation.
